Reflections about the Semester

The first semester of this year was shown to me, totally different from how it was developed, in March I saw a quite calm panorama and without many setbacks. Work opportunities were presented to me and they were a challenge of time and capabilities, the unknown of teaching and the possibility of economic stability, made me accept a job offer, which meant to accommodate my schedules, so that everything would work. One day and for a lot of lucky coincidence for me, I saw myself accepting to do classes in an embroidery workshop, for empowers of a rural school near Melipilla. It is a small group made up of 6 ladies, who more than learn to embroider, they assist to set aside for three hours a week, the tedium and the routine of their houses. We talk, we laugh, each of one tells us his story that I listen and treasure, thinking in how I can materialize them.

How Have You Changed?

During this year I have experienced small but significant changes for my future, I think that I have improved in several aspects, I resign myself more easily to what is beyond my reach, there are things that are beyond my possibilities and it is no longer necessary suffer so much for What could not be done, is healthier and it seems to me that my family is grateful. I have matured in several aspects, and also I have failed in others, but I no longer let myself be tormented so easily, although, I continue been frustrated and feel insecure sometimes. This year has been good for me, I got a job that I did not expect and that despite the bad times has filled me with experience, teaching teenagers is exhausting and frustrating most of the time, it's talk to people who do not want to listen, young people who do not believe they have the chance to improve and that is a exhausting fight. Despite all that, I see it as a step to achieve greater things in my life, I feel I'm...

A Subject I Enjoyed this Semester

Imagen
This semester I decided to choose a workshop who was different to textile ,with the idea to have an another point of view to the work that I have been developing during my years at the university. I enrolled in the experimental workshop, where the theme of this semester has been "Fall". The first question that I came up with was how to approach this word from my specialty: how the textile materiality could fit in such a broad concept. To start the work, our teacher asked us to make a conceptual map with all the terms that we could get from the initial concept (Fall), this automatically and without much thought, once the map concetual was finished, we had to choose the five most important and significant terms, and then from there, try to make that the materiality and the words come together to give a step for a body of work that would end up being the semester's final exam. Every class, one of us had to show to the classmate an idea that we could all see and discuss, so...

When I chose textile art as my central workshop, I began to visit Pinterest regularly, then I became a user. Pintrest is a website, which I like very much because it allows me to store and sort my favorite topics in a comfortable and very simple way. I can create the boards (folders that I can title as i want ) that i want and keep pictures in them, that in my case can be an inspiration or ideas for my projects. Have the possibility that my boards are seen by anyone and others boards be hidden and be the only one who can see them, it's great. On this site I can follow entire boards of people that I find interesting, suggest them to whomever I want and send messages to friends and other users. Every time I go to this site I lose myself in the millions of possibilities how an idea can be realized. This is the reason why I have the application on my cell phone and I visit it almost daily.

What are you passionate about?

It's strange that I can not decide for just one thing that I'm passionate about, I could name at least five. In firstplace, I would say that my daughter is what I love and comforts me most in my life, talk to her and about her and when she's not at home, makes me feel empty. The second is my family. The moment when I return from any place and that the two most important people in my life are at home, is the best feeling in the world and in another way, have the place of my childhood that I can return whenever I want, give me tranquility and peace. The third thing is photography, it came to my life by accident and I think it will continue waiting until I can dare to take it up again. The fourth are the textile processes, which impress me more and more in terms of their complexity. Finally I could say that I am passionate about the idea of traveling and I think that I am getting closer in this passion.

My favorita Picture

My favorita Picture My favorite photograph is a black and white image, its belong to Sergio Larraín, a Chilean photographer who was born the November 5 th , 1931 in Santiago. This image is one of the many photographs that Sergio Larrain took of Valparaiso. In my opinion, he achieves to capture the spirit of the city. Larrain's style is totally recognizable in his images and, like other great photographers of the world, provide us with a “before and an after” in the history of the chilean photography. The image that I will show below, is a photography that was taken without hurry, and you can see in the image, the hours of meticulous observation and how the photographer make that all the elements find themselves and build the precise moment to obturate. This is why we see more than landscapes with characters who live in them. Larraín shows us a personal and intimate perspective of what surrounds us, the beauty of the usual. This photograph was taken in 1952 by the best Chilean p...
